What is psoriasis? What causes psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic, scaly rash, skin disorder that affects 2% to 3 % of the world's population. There is a genetic predisposition to psoriasis, as it seems to run in family members and relatives. Environmental factors can influence the problem, but its not an allergy and is not contagious. It normally appears when a person reaches ages of 11 to 20 or later on at the age of 50 to 60. About 5% of those with psoriasis will also develop joint pains or arthritis.
Exactly what causes psoriasis is not fully understood by scientists but it seems to be related to the immune system being overactive in a way that causes the inflammation.
